Gihad CHALOUHI MD, PhD specialized in fetal medicine and fetal surgery.
After he graduated from the faculty of medicine of Saint Joseph University and as an Ob-Gyn specialist from Hotel-Dieu de France in Beirut, he travelled in 506 to Paris where he acquired a Master 2 in surgical sciences from Paris-Sud 11 University (Kremlin-Bicêtre) and a Master 2 in Prenatal Diagnosis, Specialized Imaging and Fetal Medicine from Paris-Descartes 5 University.
He has a PhD in functional fetoplacental MRI from Paris-Sorbonne, Paris-Descartes University. He is a researcher in the Imaging Research Laboratory of the INSERM Unit 970 in Paris, and is the author of more than 60 peer reviewed journal publications and 10 book chapters.
After he completed a fellowship in fetal medicine and fetal surgery in University of Paris-Descartes 5 and Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital, he worked for 8 years with Pr Yves Ville and Pr Laurent Salomon in the Obstetrics and Fetal medicine department. He headed the fetal surgery center in Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital and the National French Referral Centre for the Management of Complicated Monochorionic Pregnancies (CMR-STT) for 4 years before relocating to Beirut in 2017;
He is an International Faculty in ISUOG (International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology) and Lead of the Simulation Task Force in ISUOG and Member of ISUOG’s Basic training program. He is the director of the ISUOG Basic Training in Lebanon 2018-19.
Expert and pioneer in ultrasound education and the integration of simulation in obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound training, he is the President and co-founder of SimECHOle, Simulation school for training in obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound (Ecole de Simulation pour l’enseignement et le perfectionnement de l’échographie obstétricale et gynécologique) in Paris.
He is an expert in prenatal diagnosis, fetal medicine, fetal imaging, fetoscopy and fetal surgery with more than 300 performed fetoscopies. Relocated to Lebanon for two years now, he performed the first fetoscopies in Lebanon for plug insertion in congenital diaphragmatic hernia and for laser photocoagulation of anastomoses in twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.
He performed the first fetal surgeries in Lebanon and the region and offers a high standard medical care, diagnosis and management for all fetal pathologies and complicated pregnancies.
