Pregnancy should always be a time of excitement and anticipation. Unfortunately, some women experience complications which affect the mother's health, the fetus's health, or both. In our region (Lebanon, the Middle-East and GCC region), fetal pathologies have long been underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed and undertreated.
When I left Lebanon in 2006, fetal medicine in the region was at its earliest stages, and fetal surgery was inexistent in the region. In France, I had the honor and privilege to be in one of the world best and most renowned institution in fetal imaging, fetal therapy and fetal surgery in the world, and to learn from and work with Pr Yves Ville a pioneer in fetal medicine and fetal surgery and with Pr Laurent Salomon a pioneer in fetal imaging and fetal MRI.
After a ten-year-experience and practice in ‘Hôpital Necker-Enfants Malades in Paris’, under their mentorship, I came back to Beirut to answer a national and regional need in fetal medicine and fetal surgery.
